Hi Steel, i am self-employed and i pay my own insurance. The good thing about it, you can choose what company and what plans you want to join and be covered. The rates varies according to your health status and choices.

I do not like the company, but the plan is good for me for these reasons:
1) I do not want to use it.
2) It cost next to nothing (originally less than $70 per month, currently $87 per month), but the tax advantages make it worthwhile. (It is an HDHP, so I can contribute up to $3000 per year to an HSA and claim a tax deduction for that contribution. One year, the HSA contribution saved me more in taxes than the premiums cost.)
I love my health insurance, but it does cost a little bit much I think. I pay, $155/monthly/non smoker/35 years old. I get 2 free doctor visit and have a $1500 deductible.
My advise is not to sign up with any insurance company directly. I suggest that you contact an insurance broker who can provide you with a list a of many insurance companies.
health-quotes.talk4fun.net – my family have this health insurance. It is affordable and has good coverage for dental issues.
